After receiving 1,715 applications, Start-Up Chile announces that 100 startup companies have been selected to be part of the world-recognized acceleration program. These 100 startups make up the tenth generation of startups to come through the program.
With arrival dates in either July or August 2014, the 100 chosen startups, representing a myriad of industries, will leave their homes in 24 different countries.
The most represented country, for the first time, is Chile (29%). Other top countries are United States (21%), Argentina (7%), Mexico and Brazil (5%). Start-Up Chile is also very excited to welcome entrepreneurs coming from countries as diverse as South Korea, Pakistan and Hungary.
Enterprise Software is the most strongly identified industry among the selected startups (18%), followed by Health & Biotechnology and Energy/Clean Tech (13%)
Sebastian Vidal, Start-Up Chile´s Executive Director, said that: “This is the result of 4 years of dedicated and hard work in building the Chilean ecosystem. The fact that almost 30% of the selected startups are led by Chileans shows the tremendous growth in the quality and level of local entrepreneurs. It is also important to point out that 50% of our entrepreneurs come from Latin America. Today we are the largest community of entrepreneurs in the world, and with these results we continue to position ourselves as the path for Latin Americans who desire to successfully create new ventures and go global.”

About Start-Up Chile
Start-Up Chile is a program created by the Chilean Government that seeks to attract early-phase, high-potential entrepreneurs to bootstrap their startups using Chile as a platform to go global. The program offers its participants a global network in order to achieve this.
During the six months the participants must establish themselves in Chile, for which they receive a 1-year work visa and USD$40k. The objective, besides developing their startups, is to create and foster networks with the local entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The end goal is to convert Chile into the innovation and entrepreneurship hub of Latin America and it is believed that that goal can be achieved by connecting entrepreneurs, linking them together with dynamic and diverse networks.
The program, unique in the world, is the ideal opportunity for bootstrappers to receive funding without ceding equity while utilizing one of the strongest Latin American economies as their launching/development platform. Start-Up Chile is a revolutionary initiative that’s paved the way for similar programs like Startup America, Britain, and Greece while having been lauded internationally in publications such as Forbes, The Economist, INC. Magazine, among others.
